TNT Sports plans to showcase a new rugby tournament: what is known about the Nations Cup.
According to The Sun: The company TNT Sports is negotiating to acquire the rights to a new exciting tournament in which England will participate.
New event in the world of rugby
The first Nations Cup tournament will take place next year.
GettyThis new rugby tournament will combine teams from the Six Nations, four teams from the Rugby Championship, as well as Japan and Fiji.
So far, there is no designated broadcaster for the 2026 transmission, when the tournament takes place every two years.
According to The Telegraph, TNT Sports has already begun active negotiations to purchase the rights.
TNT Sports is currently the broadcaster for the Gallagher Premiership and Autumn Nations Series.
The company is seeking to expand its offerings and include more global events.
This information was confirmed by the executive vice president of Warner Bros Discovery Sports, TNT's parent company, Scott Young.
“We have had discussions, and we are still having them; no decisions have been made yet, but we have already had one Autumn Nations Series, and another one is about to begin,”
— he noted.
“We are always open to opportunities, but for now, nothing is agreed. Talks are still ongoing.”
“We want to conclude this conversation and understand where a resolution to this matter could lead. This is a natural progression for us.”
“We are very supportive of the formats [Nations Cup] that have been presented. It will be better for audience understanding.”
“Friendlies are great, but if they are integrated within a competition, it gives them more significance. And who doesn't love lifting a trophy?”
Expectations for the matches
England plans to play matches against Fiji, South Africa, and Argentina in the summer, and in the fall will host New Zealand, Australia, and Japan.
These matches will take place before the grand final.
The new tournament will be held every two years, except in the years when the Rugby World Cup or the British and Irish Lions tour takes place.
