McIlroy on DeChambeau: He only gets attention by mentioning others.
According to The Sun: Rory McIlroy has once again raised the issue of his rivalry with golfer Bryson DeChambeau.
These two players have a longstanding rivalry that has often been the subject of public controversy.
Before the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, McIlroy did not miss the opportunity to take a jab at his opponent across the pond.
In an interview with The Guardian, he noted:
"I think the only way he gets attention is by mentioning other people. That's really what I think about it. To get attention, he'll mention me or Scottie [Scheffler] or others."
Their rivalry became even more personal when DeChambeau made the decision to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf, against which McIlroy, 36, has actively campaigned.
The climax of their intrigue was last year's duel in the final round of the US Open, where DeChambeau, 32, clinched victory by capitalizing on McIlroy's mistakes at critical moments, continuing to stifle his string of losses in major tournaments.
McIlroy managed to interrupt this streak against DeChambeau during the Masters earlier this year. However, DeChambeau claimed that McIlroy did not communicate with him throughout the final 18 holes at Augusta.
In response, McIlroy said:
"We are trying to win the Masters. I am not going to try to become his best friend on the course."
Despite the fact that they will have to compete against each other at the Ryder Cup, they have previously played on the same team in 'Happy Gilmore 2', appearing alongside Adam Sandler with Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka.
