Trump is ready to meet with Zelensky to sign a minerals agreement

US President Donald Trump stated that he could meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky soon to sign a minerals agreement. The meeting may take place this or next week.

'I will meet with President Zelensky. In fact, he may arrive this or next week to sign the agreement - that would be good. I would like to meet him in the Oval Office. The agreement is currently being worked on. They are very close to a final decision,' Trump said.

According to Reuters, the US president made this statement before talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House.

Trump also expressed confidence that the war in Ukraine 'could end within a few weeks'. 'If we are smart, it will end. If we are not smart, it will continue, and we will lose young, beautiful people who should not die - and we do not want that. Remember, I said this war could turn into World War III. We do not want that either,' emphasized the head of the White House.

When asked whether Ukraine should give up its territories to Russia, Trump replied: 'We'll see.' At the same Time, he expressed hope that 'Ukraine will be able to regain part of its land.'

The US president also stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin 'has no problem with stationing European troops in Ukraine as part of a peace agreement.' At the same time, Trump ruled out sending American troops to Ukraine.

According to the American leader, ensuring Ukraine's security after the war is resolved 'will fall on European countries.' He also noted that he is ready to come to Moscow, 'if everything is settled', but not on May 9, as it is 'too early.'

For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed readiness to provide Ukraine with security guarantees. 'France and the United Kingdom have prepared a plan for security guarantees for Ukraine,' he stated.

According to Macron, this plan may involve sending French and British troops to Ukraine. 'They will not necessarily be stationed on the front line,' but will be present 'as a guarantee,' the French president explained.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Ukraine is ready 'for serious documents and is ready to sign an agreement on rare earth metals, but Kyiv needs security guarantees.'

According to CNN, the US opposes including security guarantees in the agreement with Ukraine regarding rare earth minerals. The channel notes, citing its own source, that the final draft of the US-Ukrainian agreement on resources has already been sent to Washington and focuses on creating a corresponding fund. At the same time, 'problematic technical' issues, including security guarantees, have been left for further discussion.

Earlier, Trump commented on the minerals agreement with Ukraine and his negotiations with Putin: full statement.
