Trump states reasons why he might refuse debates with Harris.
Presidential candidate Donald Trump stated that he "likely" will go to debates with Vice President Kamala Harris, but reserved the right to refuse them. This was announced in an interview with Trump on Fox News.
Trump cited several reasons why he might refuse the debates. He pointed out his leadership in national and key state polls and also believes that the public already knows the positions of both candidates on all issues. Trump also expressed his dislike for ABC News and indicated that he does not want to support fake news.
Previously, Trump and President Joe Biden agreed to hold two debates on ABC News. Harris stated that she is ready for debates with Trump and accused him of being afraid to face her in a public match-up. Trump previously said that he would agree to debate with Harris at least once, but his campaign later stated that the debates could only take place after the Democrats officially determine their candidate.
The final decision on the debates will be made after the Democratic National Convention, which will be held August 19-22 in Chicago.
