Trump stated that Ukraine will not end the war without him: what he meant.
According to ТСН: U.S. President Donald Trump hinted that Ukraine will need his support to end the war with Russia.
In an interview with NYP, he noted:
“Zelensky has no cards, he hasn't had any since day one. He has only one – that is Donald Trump. If he didn't have Donald Trump, it would be a complete disaster, and he knows it, and European leaders know it, and everyone knows it”.
Trump also commented on his role in the negotiations:
“I have had instances where I dealt with Putin, and Zelensky didn't want to make a deal, which shocked me. You saw a small example, sitting right in that seat. Then I had instances where it was the opposite. I think they both want to make a deal now, but we will find out”.
The U.S. President had previously criticized Zelensky, claiming that he
“has run out of cards”for negotiations. Trump emphasized:
“I have watched for many years, and I have watched him negotiate without cards. He has no trump cards. And it's already getting old. You just get tired of it. And I've had enough”.
Trump's sharp criticism of Zelensky came after the Ukrainian leader accused him of being in a
“disinformation space”originating from Russia, and that the U.S. was helping Russia
“break free from years of isolation,”conducting high-level negotiations in Riyadh.
This dispute between Trump and Zelensky highlights the tension in relations between the U.S. and Ukraine, especially in the context of the ongoing war in eastern Ukraine. Each of the leaders has their own interests and vision of events, complicating peace negotiations. It is important for the international community to continue supporting Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty.
