Drivers Forced to Crawl at 10 km/h on Deteriorating Kyiv-Odesa Highway.
Condition of the Kyiv-Odesa Highway
According to Novyny.live: The condition of the Kyiv-Odesa highway has deteriorated sharply, creating a hazard for drivers due to deep potholes and vehicle damage. Motorists on this stretch are forced to reduce speed to just 10 km/h, with the most critical situation reported in the Cherkasy region, where conditions are at their worst. This vital national corridor connects Ukraine's capital with its major Black Sea port.
The M-05 highway, linking Odesa and Kyiv, has become dangerous to navigate. Drivers report numerous cases of damage to their vehicles, particularly to suspensions and undercarriages. One driver remarked:
“The asphalt disappeared with the snow,”highlighting how the road surface has become extremely hazardous. Another driver added:
“The Kyiv-Odesa route looks absolutely terrible,”pointing to the vast number of potholes. A further road user noted:
“It’s either a pit or a ditch,”describing the uneven surface that complicates travel.
Problems and Risks on the Route
Warning signs have been placed every 20 meters along the highway, yet this does not reduce the risks associated with driving on this road. The worst conditions are observed within the Cherkasy region, where drivers face the greatest difficulties. Meanwhile, there is no official information yet regarding repair timelines, causing concern among drivers and regular users of the route.
In early February, the State Road Agency already reported emergency pothole conditions on roads, but unfortunately, the situation has not improved. Drivers continue to face dangerous conditions that could lead to serious consequences. As the highway is one of the country's most important transport arteries, its state requires an urgent solution.
The worsening state of the Odesa-Kyiv highway has serious implications for road safety, as it is a key national artery. The lack of clear information on repair deadlines heightens anxiety among drivers, who risk accidents due to the hazardous conditions. Authorities must urgently take measures to improve the situation and ensure safe passage on this critical stretch of road.
