Ukrainian Oligarch Yermolayev and His Family in Critical Condition After Monaco Explosion.
Investigation Underway Into Apparent Terrorist Attack in Monaco
According to Novyny.live: An investigation is ongoing in Monaco following what authorities believe to be a terrorist attack that left Ukrainian oligarch Vadym Yermolayev and his family severely wounded. The incident took place on June 29, 2023, at approximately 9:00 PM in the lobby of a residential building on Révérend Père Louis Frolla Street. The explosion caused critical injuries to Yermolayev, his common-law wife, and their son.
Yermolayev, 50, who has been under Ukrainian sanctions since December 2023, was injured and evacuated to Nice, France, along with other victims. Both of Yermolayev's parents are also in critical condition, while his son remains stable. At the scene, authorities discovered a backpack containing explosives packed with bolts and shrapnel. The suspect who left the device fled toward the French town of Beausoleil.
Official Response and Public Reaction
To track down the attacker, 84 public safety officers and 50 firefighters have been deployed. Monaco's Minister of State noted that 'such an incident has never occurred in the country's history.'
Christophe Mirmand, a law enforcement official, commented on the situation: 'This was likely a terrorist act.'
The investigation continues as authorities work tirelessly to identify and apprehend those responsible for this horrific act of violence.
This event has sent shockwaves through Monaco and beyond, marking the first major terrorist attack in the principality's history. Vadym Yermolayev, a figure with deep ties to business and politics, is subject to international sanctions, which may complicate the probe. Monaco's government has mobilized significant resources not only to find the perpetrator but also to reassure a public deeply concerned about national security.
