DHL and Evri Merge: How Package Delivery Will Change in Ukraine.
The Merger of Major Courier Companies in the UK
According to The Sun: The two largest courier companies in the UK have joined forces to create a powerful delivery service that will benefit consumers.
DHL's UK subsidiary and the parcel delivery service Evri have merged after receiving approval from the Competition and Markets Authority.
GettyThe companies' management hopes that by combining their resources, they will be able to deliver over one billion packages and one billion letters annually.
The merged company will have over 30,000 couriers and drivers, as well as 12,000 employees and a fleet of 8,000 vehicles.
As part of this merger, Evri will begin offering business letter delivery services for the first time.
In addition, DHL's e-commerce division will be renamed Evri Premium.
The news of the merger first surfaced in May, but official approval from the UK's Competition and Markets Authority was granted on September 4.
Pablo Ciano, head of DHL eCommerce at DHL Group, said: 'We are pleased that this strategic agreement has been officially approved by the Competition and Markets Authority of the UK.'
'The CMA's approval is a significant step forward in our commitment to providing better services and innovative solutions in the parcel delivery market in the UK.'
Martijn De Lange, head of Evri, added: 'This is an important moment and a major milestone in our 50-year history, as we create a leading business in large-scale parcel delivery.'
'I am happy to welcome our new colleagues from DHL, who share our commitment to excellent customer service.'
This merger takes place against the backdrop of the growing popularity of online shopping among consumers.
Recent data from the Office for National Statistics showed that online spending increased by 2.3% in June 2025.
In comparison, spending in general, clothing, and household stores grew only by 0.2% during the same period.
Business News
The combination of businesses in a sector is a common practice.
In August, it was announced that Associated British Foods (ABF) would acquire Hovis Group and merge its business with its own bakery division in a deal worth about £75 million.
The company noted that this move would allow for the 'integration' of Hovis's production and distribution with the Allied Bakeries business, which produces Kingsmill and Allinson’s bread.
This agreement, which requires regulatory approval, may also lead to job losses.
In July, Vodafone and Three successfully completed a mega-merger worth £15 billion, creating the largest mobile network in the UK with over 27 million customers.
This merger was first announced in 2023 but triggered an investigation by the competition authority, which is concerned about potential negative impacts on consumers.
The Competition and Markets Authority feared that the merger could significantly reduce options for mobile customers and lead to higher prices.
The CMA greenlit the deal in December on the condition that the two companies agree to invest billions of pounds in deploying a joint 5G network across the UK.
Thus, the merger of DHL and Evri, as well as other business deals, signal market development and the growing consumer demand for convenient delivery. As online sales continue to rise, competition in the delivery sector will only intensify, which could positively impact service quality.
