Moscow Intensifies Strikes Against Ukraine’s Rail Network
According to Novyny.live: In 2026, Russian forces have directed more than one-tenth of all their recorded wartime attacks at Ukraine’s state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia. Since the start of the year, 472 assaults on rail infrastructure have been documented. Since the full-scale invasion began, nearly 5,000 strikes have hit the company’s facilities, resulting in 39 railway workers killed and roughly 26,000 structures damaged. These figures underscore how critical rail lines have become a prime target in the conflict.
Amid this ongoing threat, a tragic train collision occurred in Odesa on March 22, 2026, during an evacuation operation, claiming the life of a female conductor. The incident starkly illustrates the persistent dangers faced by both railway staff and passengers.
Overall, since the start of the full-scale war, Russian forces have attacked the company’s facilities nearly 5,000 times.

Attacks on rail infrastructure not only endanger workers and travelers but also disrupt supply chains and logistics essential for defense and civilian survival. Protecting these critical assets remains a top priority for Ukrainian authorities and the military.
