Ukraine Raises Funeral Payouts to 8,500 Hryvnias Starting in 2026.
State Funeral Assistance in Ukraine for 2026
According to Novyny.live: Starting March 13, 2026, Ukrainians covering funeral expenses for relatives or close ones can receive a one-time state payment of 8,500 hryvnias. This marks a significant increase from the previous amount of 4,100 hryvnias. The exact sum depends on the deceased's status, with the payout determined under Ukraine's Law on Compulsory State Social Insurance.
Eligible family members without their own income source can apply. For pensioners, the benefit equals two months of the deceased's pension under the Law on Compulsory State Pension Insurance. Military pensioners qualify for three months of their pension. Importantly, the minimum payout for 2026 cannot fall below 16,640 hryvnias.
Who Can Claim the Benefit
In 2026, the following relatives are entitled to apply:
- Parents (father and mother)
- Spouse (husband or wife)
- Children, siblings, and grandchildren under 18
- Grandparents (grandfather and grandmother)
- Individuals with disabilities before reaching adulthood
- Students up to age 23
Claims can also be made by insured individuals, or by any person or organization that arranged and paid for the funeral. These updated rules aim to ease the financial strain on families during difficult times of loss.
The introduction of higher funeral assistance amounts reflects Ukraine's commitment to social support for citizens facing bereavement. This boost significantly reduces the financial burden on families, as funeral costs can be substantial. It underscores the government's effort to protect vulnerable populations, especially amid economic challenges.
Additionally, the new regulations provide clear eligibility criteria, which should help minimize confusion among applicants.
