Launch of Research on Ukraine's Electric Public Transport Sector
According to ЦТС — Транспорт: A major study assessing the state of electric public transport in Ukraine was officially unveiled in Kyiv. This significant event took place amid ongoing negotiations for Ukraine's accession to the European Union. Conducted by Berlin Economics in collaboration with the Center for Transport Strategies (CTS) and the NGO Vision Zero, the research aims to formulate a roadmap for expanding electric mobility across the country, specifically identifying both opportunities and obstacles in the sector.
According to the findings, Ukrainian communities require over UAH 480 billion to meet their electric transport needs. This figure underscores the critical need for investment to drive sustainable development and modernize infrastructure. As Maryna Denysiuk noted,
“The issue is not just about buying new buses or trolleybuses; it is about ensuring these investments fuel Ukraine’s economy, generate jobs, and strengthen industrial capabilities.”
Innovation Prospects in Electric Mobility
Experts from Berlin Economics highlighted that electric public transport represents a sector with immense innovative potential for Ukraine. They stressed that this potential must be properly harnessed and directed within the right framework to achieve maximum results in the industry's growth. According to the specialists, the initial focus should be on infrastructure, with fleet renewal to follow afterward.
Overall, the study presented in Kyiv opens up new opportunities for advancing electric public transport in Ukraine and emphasizes the necessity of a strategic approach to investments in this field.
The research was introduced against a backdrop of growing demand from Ukrainian cities for sustainable and eco-friendly transport solutions that align with European standards. Rolling out electric public transport could serve as a pivotal step toward Ukraine's integration into the European Union, as it supports core principles of sustainable development and carbon footprint reduction.
