Belgrade’s Metro Finally Becomes a Reality: Alstom Signs €915 Million Deal.
Belgrade Metro Construction Underway
According to Novyny.live: Serbia is set to get its first metro system. Work on the inaugural line in the capital, Belgrade, is now officially moving forward after a €915 million contract was awarded to French manufacturer Alstom. The project aims to connect key city districts, including Makiško Polje and Karaburma.
Key Features of the First Metro Line
The initial 15-kilometer line will feature 11 kilometers of tunnel and 15 stations, offering convenient access for both residents and visitors. A fleet of 32 driverless Metropolis trains, each made up of three cars, will operate on the line. Thanks to an integrated control center, trains will run at intervals of as little as 90 seconds.
This milestone marks a major step forward for Serbia’s transportation infrastructure and urban mobility in Belgrade. The metro is expected to significantly reduce road congestion and boost the efficiency of public transit in the capital.
Belgrade’s metro launch is part of a broader urban infrastructure strategy that includes modernizing other transport modes and improving road networks. The new system is anticipated to ease pressure on existing transit options, enhancing the quality of life for residents by providing a faster, more convenient way to move around the city.
