Turkey on the strike at the port of Chornomorsk: a foreign-flagged vessel was damaged

According to ТСН: The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an official statement regarding the missile strike on the Chornomorsk port in the Odesa region. It turned out that a civilian vessel under a foreign flag, owned by a Turkish company, was caught in the fire.

The document from the Turkish foreign ministry states that Ankara views this attack as confirmation that the war is spilling beyond land and poses a threat to shipping security in the region.

“Our fears were confirmed”

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized:

“The fact that a foreign-flagged vessel owned by a Turkish company was damaged indicates the validity of our concerns, which we had previously documented, regarding the spread of war in our region to the Black Sea.”

Condition of the crew

According to preliminary data, diplomats report that Turkish citizens were not harmed during the attack. Evacuation of the ship's crew and truck drivers who were nearby is currently underway.

The Turkish Consulate General in Odesa is closely monitoring the situation and providing necessary support to its citizens.

Call for a new agreement

Turkey is using this incident to advance the idea of negotiations. Diplomats emphasize the need to “immediately cease the war” and propose a specific step for de-escalation at sea.

They noted:

“We remind of the necessity to reach an agreement to suspend attacks on the energy and port infrastructure of the parties to ensure the security of shipping and prevent escalation in the Black Sea.”

Ankara is essentially proposing to exclude ports and vessels from the hostilities to secure trade routes.

It is also reported that a vessel caught fire in Odesa after the explosions. According to preliminary data, one person was injured, but no signs of leakage or contamination of the air with chemical substances have been detected.

This incident once again highlights the tension in the Black Sea region, where military actions affect the safety of civilian vessels and international shipping. Turkey's call for negotiations aims to find a way to de-escalate the conflict, which is critically important for the economic stability and security of the entire regional trade.
