Military Officer Accused of Extorting $3000 for the Return of Comrades to Service.
Extortionist Among Military Personnel
According to inkorr.com: A military officer in Mykolaiv region is suspected of extorting money from his comrades. He allegedly promised to help his colleagues return to service after he voluntarily left the unit, for which he demanded 3,000 US dollars. In addition, the man offered to transfer his colleagues to positions that did not require participation in combat operations.
'Until August 30, 2025, a law in Ukraine allowed for the voluntary return of military personnel who had left their unit without permission. The State Bureau of Investigations, together with other law enforcement agencies and the Military Law Enforcement Service, ensured a transparent and safe mechanism for implementing this process,' the Bureau noted.
As a result of the pre-trial investigation, the indictment has already been sent to court, so the case will be examined in accordance with the law. Law enforcement agencies have established that the military officer abused the situation for personal gain, violating the law and established procedures.
This case underscores the importance of military personnel adhering to the law and ethical norms. Extortion in any form jeopardizes trust among military personnel and can worsen the situation within units, which is especially critical in wartime conditions. The court is expected to examine this case in the shortest possible time.
