Canada has prepared a response to the USA in case of a trade war.
The most populous province of Canada, Ontario, threatens to completely stop importing all alcoholic beverages from the USA if Donald Trump imposes a 25% tariff on Canadian products. This statement was made by Ontario Premier Doug Ford in Toronto, reported Ukrinform.
Ford ordered the provincial liquor store network of Ontario - LCBO - to remove all American alcoholic beverages from the shelves in case the USA imposes tariffs. He also urged to support and promote wines and spirits produced in Ontario. It is noted that Ontario is the largest consumer of alcohol in the world, so these measures will have a significant impact on American alcohol producers, Ford noted.
LCBO is one of the largest alcohol importers in the world. Since the Ontario government controls and has a monopoly on the wholesale procurement of alcoholic beverages, the refusal of LCBO to carry American products will prompt private retail stores to also remove American drinks from their shelves.
