On the day of the referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant, early at 6:00, 84 polling stations started working in Kazakhstan. This was reported by the deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission, Konstantin Petrov.

Most of these polling stations are located in the Karaganda and Abai regions, as well as in Almaty. There are similar stations in the Aktobe and Mangistau regions. These polling stations will cease their work along with other polling stations at 20:00.

All polling stations have started voting

As of 7:00 on October 6, 2024, all 10,249 polling stations in the regions started voting. The voter lists include 12,244,683 citizens.

It should be noted that citizens of Kazakhstan can also participate in the referendum abroad. In 59 countries, 74 polling stations have been established for this purpose.

The first leader of the country, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, voted at one of the polling stations in Astana. As a result, one of the largest foreign polling stations, located in Tashkent, began voting at 7:00 local Time.

The last polling stations will open at 16:00 Astana time in Washington, New York, and Ottawa, and at 20:00 in San Francisco. Abroad, 26 polling stations have already opened, and 48 others are expected to open.

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, also participated in the referendum and held a briefing for journalists. He emphasized that the government is actively fulfilling its tasks. The President added that he is constantly aware of all developments.

At the end of the briefing, the President expressed his respect for journalists, noting that apartments were provided to journalists this year and plans to continue this practice in the future.

It should be noted that a "grain war" has started between Russia and Kazakhstan.
