Billboards on Women’s Military Service Appear in Kyiv: What the Armed Forces Really Say.
Advertising Campaign Highlights Women’s Role in Ukraine’s Defense
According to Novyny.live: A new billboard campaign has launched in Ukrainian cities bearing the slogan: 'Defending Ukraine is women’s work.' This has sparked speculation about a potential mobilization of women. However, Andrii Podika, head of the Communications Department of the Land Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, emphasized that the campaign is not related to conscription.
On March 28, a video featuring a billboard from Drone Force circulated on social media. Podika clarified that
“this is an advertising campaign aimed at women who wish to voluntarily join the Armed Forces, specifically in drone units.”He also assured the public that
“no legislative acts or documents regarding the mobilization of women have been enacted.”
Voluntary Participation of Women in National Defense
It is important to note that defending the country is a shared responsibility of all citizens. Women’s service in Ukraine remains entirely voluntary. Additionally, former Kyiv prosecutor Yaroslav Zakharchenko reported that territorial recruitment centers have listed over 30 women as wanted. These facts underscore the importance of women’s involvement in national defense, while reaffirming that their participation is based on personal choice.
The campaign, which emphasizes women’s role in protecting Ukraine, may reflect the growing presence of women in the military and other security-related fields. Despite concerns about mobilization, military officials stress that women can only join on a voluntary basis. This could shift societal perceptions of women’s roles in Ukraine’s armed forces.
