China has discovered a unique rare earth mineral: how this will affect the global energy sector.
The demand for rare earth metals is growing due to the intensification of measures aimed at developing the world's energy sector. This was reported by the Chinese news agency Xinhua, indicating that a large deposit of a previously unknown rare earth mineral has been found in China.
Details of the discovery of a new mineral in China
A group of scientists from the China University of Geosciences and the Inner Mongolia Geological Survey Institute discovered a deposit of an unknown mineral in the central part of the main ore territory belonging to the Bayan Obo deposit. The leader of the research group, Zhao Laishi, emphasized the complexity of the geochemistry and the multifaceted resources of this deposit.
The International Mineralogical Association Huanghoite stated that the discovered mineral is a new carbonate mineral that contains a large amount of 'magnetic metal', which is used in electric vehicles and offshore wind turbines.
Additional information
Recently, lithium deposits of 490 million tons were found in Hunan province in China. In addition, other important minerals such as tungsten and tin were also discovered in this deposit.
Earlier, the media also reported on the remaining oil reserves in 2023, ore production in Kryvyi Rih, and other interesting facts from the mining industry.
The increase in demand for rare earth metals due to the discovery of new mineral deposits in China indicates the importance of research in the field of ore extraction and the use of vital resources for the development of modern technologies such as electric vehicles and alternative energy sources.
