Putin and Trump discussed Ukraine: what is known about their phone conversation

According to ТСН: The Kremlin expressed its position regarding the phone conversation between Putin and Trump, which took place before the US president's meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky.

Assistant to the Russian president Yuri Ushakov commented on the results of this communication, as reported by Russian media. He noted that Putin and Trump 'generally share similar views' on the fact that a temporary ceasefire for a referendum would only prolong the war in Ukraine.

Ushakov also emphasized that 'for a final cessation of hostilities, a bold, responsible political decision regarding Donbas is primarily needed from Kyiv, considering the situation on the front lines.' This confirms that Russia continues to demand from Ukraine the 'surrender' of Donbas.

The presidential assistant also added that Trump suggested continuing work on resolving the conflict in specially created working groups. Putin agreed with this initiative, and details of the groups' work will be announced in early January.

Let us remind you that at 8:00 PM Kyiv time, a meeting between Zelensky and Trump will take place in Florida.

This phone conversation and the subsequent meeting between Zelensky and Trump could become significant stages in the development of the peace process in Ukraine. The Kremlin's position, which emphasizes Kyiv's responsibility, indicates the protracted nature of the conflict and the difficulties in finding a compromise solution to the situation in Donbas.
