Ukrainian Strikes Target Russian Naval and Air Assets in Crimea and Zaporizhzhia.
Attacks on Russian Military Installations
According to UATV: Ukrainian Defense Forces have conducted strikes against Russian military targets in temporarily occupied territories. In a significant overnight operation on February 21, 2023, Ukrainian forces successfully attacked Russian assets in Crimea. These strikes resulted in the destruction of two Project 22460 'Okhotnik' border patrol ships near Inkerman and two Be-12 aircraft at the Yevpatoria Aviation Repair Plant.
Separately, in the Zaporizhzhia region, a Russian 'Tornado-S' multiple launch rocket system was destroyed. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the hits, stating:
“Target engagements have been confirmed.”
Spokesperson Robert Brovdi also verified that Ukrainian forces had eliminated the Russian 'Tornado-S' MLRS. These coordinated attacks demonstrate Ukraine's ongoing military pressure on Russian forces across the front. Strikes on occupied Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, are a key part of Kyiv's strategy to degrade enemy capabilities.
Ukraine's Strategic Aims
The planned strikes on Russian military objects underscore Ukraine's continued active strategy to regain control of occupied territories, including Crimea. Destroying enemy military hardware and infrastructure can significantly impair their combat capabilities in the region, which may, in turn, accelerate processes toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict. This approach aims to weaken Russia's logistical and operational foothold on the peninsula and southern Ukraine.
