Hidden Surveillance Equipment Discovered

According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has announced that technical devices used for covert information gathering were found in the residence of its detective unit head. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under Article 182 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code in response to this discovery.

The apartment owner, where the devices were located, reported individuals who identified themselves as law enforcement officers. One of these individuals has been identified as an active officer of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). This incident has raised concerns among NABU staff, who emphasized that 'any attempts to illegally collect information about bureau employees are unacceptable.'

Security and Anti-Corruption Challenges

On June 4, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court in Kyiv released NABU detective Viktor Husarov from criminal liability. Meanwhile, the SBU has documented at least 60 instances of information being passed to a former deputy head of security for ex-President Viktor Yanukovych. These developments highlight serious security and anti-corruption challenges facing Ukraine.

This case underscores ongoing issues within the country’s security system and the interactions between various law enforcement agencies. The discovery of covert surveillance gear at a NABU employee’s home points to a potential threat against anti-corruption bodies, which could hinder their operations. Such incidents raise alarms about information protection and the safety of personnel dedicated to fighting corruption in Ukraine.
