Germany may deport Ukrainian men: what is known about the new rules

According to ТСН: Serious changes are being prepared in Germany's migration policy, which may significantly affect Ukrainian refugees. The Christian Social Union (CSU), a partner of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, has expressed the initiative to tighten rules for foreigners.

One of the central issues of this initiative is the possibility of Ukrainian men of conscription age staying in Germany. The head of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Alexander Hoffmann, emphasized his position regarding this category of refugees.

According to him, "eligible Ukrainian men" must return to Ukraine.

German politicians believe that these men must "contribute to the defense of their country" rather than remain in Europe.

In addition to the mobilization issue, the CSU also raised the topic of financing refugees. The draft resolution states that all asylum seekers, regardless of their country of origin, must use their own assets to cover their living expenses in Germany.

This innovation will particularly affect Ukrainians who arrived in the country after April 2025 and fall under the Refugee Assistance Act.

Mass Deportations in 2026

The document also pertains to refugees from other countries, including Syria. CSU deputies believe that the civil war in Syria has ended, and the country is now in the process of recovery. Therefore, the grounds for protecting most Syrians are no longer relevant.

The party proposes to organize a "mass deportation operation" in 2026. Regular flights are planned for returning migrants to their countries, including Syria and Afghanistan. Those who refuse to leave voluntarily are planned to be deported "as soon as possible."

Furthermore, Germany intends to reduce payments to refugees from Ukraine who arrived after April 1, 2025. The government's cabinet is expected to make a decision to transfer these Ukrainians to a different social payment system.

These proposals reflect a new approach by German politicians to migration policy, particularly in the context of changing circumstances in Ukraine and other regions. Given the situation, these decisions could elicit significant reactions from both refugees and political experts, as they affect human lives and the future of many families.
