In Germany, in 2024, the number of politically motivated attacks on refugee shelters rose by 30% compared to the previous year. A total of 218 such attacks were recorded, including 28 violent ones that resulted in injuries, including a child, reported the Federal Ministry of the Interior of Germany.
However, the increase in the number of attacks occurred outside the places where refugees live. Over the year, 1905 criminal offenses were recorded, of which 237 turned out to be violent. These figures showed a slight decrease compared to the previous year when there were 2450. It is worth noting that the data for the fourth quarter have not yet been included in the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
'The number of insults, threats, and attacks on refugees is alarmingly high, and it is outrageous that a significant part of politicians and the public ignores this situation,' said Bundestag deputy from the Left Party, Clara Bünger. 'The victims are people seeking protection in Germany. And they are facing racist hatred and violence. We must not get used to this.'
