This immense marine feature measures 301 meters deep and 162.3 meters wide. Research on the Dragon Hole began in 2016, and the findings have captivated the scientific community. Such blue holes are rare and act as unique time capsules for marine life.

Discovery of New Species

The exploration of the Dragon Hole revealed over 1,700 distinct virus variants, highlighting the extraordinary biodiversity within this underwater ecosystem. Furthermore, researchers successfully cultivated 294 bacterial strains from samples collected in this unique zone. Significantly, more than 22% of the anaerobic microorganisms found in the sinkhole were previously unknown to science.
