Poland approves Ukraine's intention to search for victims of the Volyn tragedy.
The Ukrainian Institute of National Memory plans to search for the remains of the victims of the Volyn tragedy in 2025
Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Pawel Wronski called this news 'good information and a step in the right direction'. He also emphasized that Poland expects not only plans, but also concrete decisions on this issue.
Wronski noted that Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has already emphasized several times that Poland expects real decisions. He also called on the Ukrainian side for a 'civilized and Christian gesture of memory' regarding the victims of the Volyn tragedy.
This issue was discussed during a meeting between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiga and Polish Sejm head Szymon Holowinia, and at the session of the Polish and Ukrainian Parliamentary Assembly. In September, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski also visited Kyiv and convinced the Ukrainian side of the need to close historical issues with Poland. He stressed that this could complicate negotiations on EU accession.
