The collision involved a PKP Intercity train traveling from Białogard to Warsaw and a Polregio regional train running from Piła to Bydgoszcz.
Following the impact, multiple carriages were derailed. Over a dozen fire brigades were dispatched to the scene to provide assistance. As a result of the crash, train services on the Piła–Bydgoszcz line have been temporarily suspended. A special commission will investigate the causes of the accident. According to Martin Gałasz, “both trains partially derailed after the collision.” Emergency services remain active at the scene, working to determine what caused the incident and to manage its aftermath.
Aftermath of the Crash
Train accidents can have severe consequences for both passengers and railway infrastructure. In this case, given the number of injuries and the disruption to rail traffic, immediate action is critical to ensure passenger safety and prevent similar incidents in the future. The investigative commission will need to identify the root causes of the collision in order to implement necessary safety improvements on Poland's railways.
