The US Senate proposed 54.6 billion dollars in aid to Ukraine
On Thursday, two senators from different parties introduced a bill to provide aid to Ukraine amounting to 54.6 billion dollars. The aid is planned for the next two years.

This was reported by The New York Times.

What the proposed document entails

The bill was introduced by senators Jeanne Shaheen (Democrat) and Lisa Murkowski (Republican). It provides for billions of dollars in direct military aid, as well as funds to replenish American stockpiles.

According to the plan, up to one third of the aid will be funded through revenues from confiscated Russian assets and the sale of weapons to European allies.

Moreover, the bill will legalize an agreement between the US and Ukraine regarding the supply of minerals and allow using the proceeds from their sale to offset America's costs of arming Kyiv.

Additionally, the document will significantly expand the powers of US President Donald Trump, allowing him to approve arms supplies to Ukraine without consulting Congress. Their proposed funding will increase from the current 100 million dollars to 6 billion dollars in 2026 and 2027.

At the same time, as NYT reports, although the initiative is supported by representatives of both parties, it will face challenges. The reason is that Republicans continue to resist increasing aid to Ukraine and support Trump's stance on cutting spending, particularly on foreign aid.

As a reminder, a week ago, Trump stated that EU countries would fully finance the supply of American military equipment, which would then be distributed among European states. He noted that a significant portion of this equipment would go to Ukraine.

We also reported that the recently established US government agency for defense cooperation announced the provision of military assistance to Ukraine. What this assistance includes can be read at this link.

A bill has been introduced that provides for substantial funds for aid to Ukraine amounting to 54.6 billion dollars over the next two years. The project aims to support the defense capability of the country and strengthen cooperation between the US and Ukraine, although difficulties are expected due to the resistance of some politicians.
