New Fitness Center for Veterans Opens in Zaporizhzhia

According to UATV: A gym dedicated to war veterans has opened in Zaporizhzhia, aiming to boost both their physical and mental well-being. Operating for over six weeks, the facility already serves 50 regular members, including veterans and their families. This gym is part of a broader social initiative focused on helping defenders recover physically and psychologically.

Tailored Training Plans for Every Veteran

Vitaliy, a veteran training at the new gym, joined Ukraine’s Defense Forces after Russia launched its full-scale invasion. He has been working out here for more than a month.

“A buddy recommended it—he said a new gym had opened where you could train in peace, backed by the city council,”

Workouts are customized to each veteran’s specific needs. Coach Ilya explains:

“We work with every veteran individually. They give me their medical reports, and based on those, I design a training program for each person.”

Ilya also notes the high intensity of the veterans’ training: “The way they train, not every athlete trains that hard.” The gym has become more than just a place to exercise—it is a hub for socializing and mutual support. Across Ukraine, roughly 150 similar sports clubs for veterans have already been launched, highlighting the growing importance of such initiatives.

The opening of the Zaporizhzhia gym reflects a rising focus on the physical and psychological recovery of soldiers returning from the front lines. Social projects supporting veterans aid not only in physical healing but also in psychological reintegration, which is especially vital under current conditions. The expansion of these clubs across Ukraine underscores the urgent need to support those who defended the country and their families, creating spaces for recovery and community.
