Meeting between Zelensky and Trump: is a breakthrough possible in peace negotiations?

According to ТСН: Ukraine is seeking constructive solutions to stop active hostilities.

This was stated by advisor to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Mykhailo Podolyak.

“It is important for us to separate official documents from everything that happens around them. There is a position of the US administration regarding the 'peace plan' that we are discussing on several platforms with Americans and Europeans. It is about trying to create a realistic mechanism to end the war: security guarantees, the role of allies, consequences for Russia in case of renewed aggression. This is a difficult and fragile discussion, where every word is worth its weight in gold,” he noted.

He also added:

“The most sensitive issues—territories, troop numbers, alliance possibilities—require conversations at the highest level between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump. The President of Ukraine is ready to be at such a meeting at any moment. It is clear that without a personal conversation between the presidents, it is impossible to correctly address the most sensitive questions. It is also clear that Russia has not yet shown a desire to end the war,” he added.

It is reminded that it became known that Vitkoff advised Russian advisers to Putin. This occurred during a conversation of politicians in October. An American official recommended that the Kremlin use flattery to propose a 'peace plan' regarding Ukraine to President Donald Trump. This conversation preceded the scandalous 'Trump peace plan' of 28 points.

After this, Putin and Trump had a productive two-hour conversation, during which the Russian leader congratulated the American president on reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and praised his efforts as a 'peace president'—as Vitkoff advised Ushakov.

The publication The Telegraph also noted that a leak of the phone conversation between Vitkoff and Ushakov confirmed the clumsy attempts of the American to 'train' the Kremlin on how to behave with Trump. Despite the previous success of the US president's special representative in Gaza, his lack of diplomatic preparation became apparent.

Thus, the situation around the peace process remains tense. High-level discussions between Ukraine and the US may prove decisive for the future direction of negotiations with Russia. However, so far, there is no sense of conflict resolution in Moscow, and diplomatic efforts require significant attention and effort from both sides.
