Ukraine’s Defense Forces Strike Major Oil Refinery in Southern Russia, Hit Targets in Crimea.
Operation by Ukraine’s Defense Forces
According to Espreso.tv: On the night of May 27, 2026, units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces launched an attack on the Tuapsinsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. This facility ranks among the largest oil processing plants in southern Russia, with an annual capacity of approximately 12 million tons. The strike employed air-launched Storm Shadow missiles.
In addition, during the same operation, Ukrainian forces targeted military assets in the Voronezh and Rostov regions, as well as in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Specifically, the following were hit:
- software and hardware systems used for intelligence automation by the Russian Air Force in the cities of Voronezh, Taganrog, and Sevastopol;
- command posts in Tsvetnye Peski and Sorokyne in the Luhansk region, where a warehouse of material and technical supplies was damaged in Sorokyne;
- a drone manufacturing facility near Azov in the Zaporizhzhia region;
- a Nebo-SV radar station near Kamyanka;
- a command-and-vehicle unit from a Buk-M2 system near Kadiivka in the Luhansk region.
Notably, a day earlier on May 26, it was confirmed that the Syzran oil refinery in Syzran, Samara Oblast, had ceased operations as a result of an attack that took place on May 21.
Strategic Activity by Ukrainian Forces
These strikes highlight the strategic efforts of Ukraine’s military aimed at destroying critical enemy infrastructure, which could significantly impact its combat capabilities. Attacks on oil refineries and military sites across various Russian regions indicate an expansion of the battlefield and Ukraine’s ongoing push to weaken Russian forces in the conflict. This also suggests new phases in the escalation of military actions between the two countries.
