Ukrainian Forces Strike Saratov Refinery and Lazarevo Station in Cross-Border Operation.
Frontline Situation on May 31
According to UATV: On May 31, a total of 77 combat engagements were recorded along the front line. That same night, Ukraine’s Defense Forces launched strikes on military and infrastructure targets inside Russia and in temporarily occupied territories. The operation came as a direct response to Russian military claims of having 'fully captured Luhansk Oblast.' A representative of the Third Army Corps emphasized that this was Ukraine’s answer to such assertions.
Strikes on Strategic Assets
Ukraine’s Defense Forces targeted several critical facilities. In Saratov, they hit an oil refinery owned by Rosneft, which processes approximately 7 million tons of crude oil annually. Another strike was carried out against the Lazarevo oil-transport station in Kirov Oblast. These attacks resulted in the elimination of 1,560 Russian occupiers in a single day.
Since the full-scale invasion began, total Russian military losses have surpassed 1,364,000 personnel. The list of destroyed equipment includes:
- 2 Russian tanks
- 14 armored combat vehicles
- 57 artillery systems
- 6 multiple launch rocket systems
- 1 air defense system
- 19 ground robotic systems
- 524 vehicles
As part of this operation, strikes were also conducted on a fuel and lubricant depot in Rostov Oblast and a military base on the Caspian Sea. These actions signal an intensification of Ukrainian efforts in response to the threat posed by Russian forces. Mykola Malomuzh noted,
“not a single task has been completed,”underscoring the necessity of continuing the fight.
The events highlight an escalation in hostilities between Ukraine and Russia, particularly amid statements about a potential 'full capture' of the Luhansk region. Attacks on strategic assets inside Russia demonstrate the readiness of Ukrainian forces to take decisive action against enemy provocations. This increased activity may reflect a shift in Ukrainian military tactics as the conflict continues, as well as a firm commitment to defending the country’s territorial integrity.
