Trump Predicts Ukraine War Will End During His Presidency, Says Putin Ready for a Deal.
Outlook for Ending Russia's War Against Ukraine
According to Espreso.tv: In a Fox News interview, Donald Trump expressed confidence that Russia's war against Ukraine could conclude while he is in office. He stated that Vladimir Putin is under pressure and intends to reach an agreement 'soon.' Trump emphasized that, in his view, 'it takes two to tango,' highlighting the need for both sides to participate in achieving peace.
On July 6, 2023, Trump claimed Putin wants to end the conflict because he feels pressure. The following day, at a NATO summit, Trump also noted that both Ukraine and Russia want to strike a deal. However, according to the Financial Times, Putin will not enter negotiations until he captures Donetsk, which could significantly complicate the peace process.
This comes as the war, now in its second year, continues to exact a heavy toll on both nations and global stability.
Trump's Comments and NATO's Stance
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, for his part, expressed doubts about what would need to happen for talks to begin. Commenting on the situation, Trump stated:
'I think so. I thought it would have ended sooner. I thought it would be the easiest because I got along with both leaders.' - Donald Trump
He also urged Putin:
'Vladimir, it's time for you to stop. It's time to end this war.' - Donald Trump
Trump's words thus underscore his hopes for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, although the situation remains complex due to Russia's stance and the lack of a clear strategy from NATO. The involvement of the international community in this matter, as well as the subsequent actions of the parties, could significantly affect the prospects for negotiations and the possibility of achieving peace in the region.
