Ukrainian military received the latest American ZRK Tempest: details and capabilities.
According to ТСН: The Defense Forces of Ukraine seem to have received the new American anti-aircraft missile system Tempest from V2X for testing. This system was spotted in a video published by the Air Command 'Center' in a festive message.
The Tempest missile system was first presented at a weapons exhibition in October 2025. Since this is a new development, analysts believe that the Air Forces could have received a limited number of prototypes for testing to refine this type of weapon.
System Characteristics
From open sources, it is known that V2X's development is available in two versions: on a trailer for protecting stationary objects and in a mobile version based on inexpensive COTS buggies. The mobile version can be used to reinforce mobile fire groups, acting as a 'hunter' for drones.
The Tempest anti-aircraft missile complex uses AGM-114L Longbow missiles to hit targets, the cost of each starting from 100 thousand dollars. In the context of fighting against 'Shaheds', this can be quite an expensive solution.
As the Russian side ramps up the production of drones, approaches to their destruction require the use of various types of weapon systems.
Let us remind you that President Zelensky announced that a critically important meeting with international partners regarding the supply of scarce missiles for air defense systems is set to take place.
The acquisition of the Tempest system underscores Ukraine's efforts in combating drones that the enemy actively uses. The effectiveness of this system and its ability to adapt to modern threats could significantly impact the successes of Ukrainian forces in air defense. In addition, the scheduled meeting of President Zelensky with international partners may become an important step in enhancing Ukraine's defense capability and obtaining necessary resources.
