According to TSN.ua: Ukraine is poised to receive advanced Gripen and Rafale fighter jets, yet faces a critical shortage of trained pilots to operate them. Anatolii Khrapchynskyi, a director at a defense enterprise, emphasizes the urgent need to invest in pilot training to prevent future operational shortfalls. This challenge is common for nations rapidly modernizing their air forces after relying on older Soviet-era equipment.

Under established agreements, Ukraine is set to acquire:

• 150 Gripen military aircraft
• 100 Rafale aircraft

This represents a major expansion of Ukraine's defense aviation fleet, aligning with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's pledge to bolster the country's air power. Zelenskyy has stated these jets are among the world's best, reflecting Ukraine's high ambitions for strengthening its defensive capabilities.

The Pilot Training Challenge

However, as Anatolii Khrapchynskyi notes, there is a significant risk that even with the new aircraft, the country may lack enough qualified pilots to fly them.

“It could happen that Ukraine receives additional aircraft, but we won't have enough pilots,” he stressed.

“The time will come when we can get these aircraft, but there won't be enough pilots,” Khrapchynskyi noted, highlighting the necessity for immediate action in this area.
