Ukraine and Poland Launch Collaborative Geophysical Studies

According to Espreso.tv: A new agreement between Ukraine’s National Antarctic Scientific Center (NASC) and the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences will fund joint geophysical research during the 2026–2027 period. The work will take place at Poland’s ‘Hornsund’ station on Svalbard in the Arctic, and at Ukraine’s ‘Akademik Vernadsky’ station in Antarctica. The deal was finalized in Warsaw.

Under this partnership, two Ukrainian geophysicists—Yuriy Sumaruk and Anton Kushnir—are scheduled to travel to the Arctic in late summer 2023. NASC Director Oleksandr Dykyi remarked that

“bipolarity applies not only to disorders but also to research”
and emphasized that
“I am genuinely glad that we and our Polish colleagues are looking to the future, not the past”
. He described the agreement as Ukraine’s ‘window’ into the Arctic.

Expanding Horizons for Scientific Collaboration

This Ukrainian-Polish initiative creates fresh avenues for scientific cooperation in geophysics, a field critical to understanding climate change and broader environmental challenges. By joining forces, both nations aim to strengthen their research capabilities and contribute to pressing global ecological discussions.

The agreement highlights Ukraine’s drive to integrate into the international scientific community and engage in worldwide conversations about urgent environmental issues. Collaboration with Polish scientists not only boosts the research potential of both countries but also underscores the value of joint action in addressing the increasingly visible impacts of climate change across diverse regions of the planet.
