Ukraine and Portugal Launch Joint Production of Sea Drones: Agreement Details.
According to ТСН: Kyiv is actively increasing cooperation with partners in the defense sector, focusing on one of the most promising areas of modern warfare — sea drones.
This was announced by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, after a meeting with the Prime Minister of Portugal.
Joint Drone Production
Zelensky emphasized the strategic importance of this agreement.
“Today, there is a joint statement from Ukraine and Portugal on establishing a partnership for the production of sea drones… It is important to have results. And in all parts of our Europe, there should be enough strength to counter any threats, and modern drones are a real tool for defense,” Zelensky noted.
Weapons and Finances
In addition to technological partnership, Portugal also provides substantial financial support. The President thanked Lisbon for its contribution to the PURL program, which allows Ukraine to purchase American weapons.
Portugal also supported a pan-European decision regarding security financial guarantees.
“This is 90 billion euros for Ukraine in the coming years — very tangible,” emphasized the President.
Reconstruction of Schools
The visit of the head of the Portuguese government also included a humanitarian aspect. Portugal is actively involved in restoring the educational infrastructure affected by the war, providing assistance to Ukrainian schools in Chernihiv and Cherkasy.
The President expressed gratitude to Portugal for supporting the Ukrainian community that has found refuge in this country.
It should be noted that the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, will soon report to the President on dialogue with the USA. Zelensky also mentioned that the USA plans separate meetings with Russia and proposed a negotiation format involving Ukraine, the USA, Russia, and possibly Europe.
Thus, Ukraine continues to strengthen its defense capabilities through partnership with Portugal, which opens new prospects for the production of modern sea drones. The financial support from Lisbon and humanitarian assistance in the reconstruction of schools also testify to the deep mutual understanding between the two countries that is essential for Ukraine amid the ongoing war.
