Local Ceasefire for ZNPP Repairs

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine and Russia have agreed to a temporary, localized ceasefire in the area surrounding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). The truce, which took effect on February 27, will allow for urgent repairs to a critical 330 kV backup power line, essential for the plant's stable and safe operation. This agreement represents a rare instance of cooperation on a vital safety issue amid the ongoing conflict.

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, confirmed that the area where the repairs will be conducted has been demined. This is a crucial safety measure to protect the personnel undertaking the technical work at the occupied facility.

Situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant

The situation at the Zaporizhzhia plant remains precarious, as it lost connection to one of its high-voltage power lines on the night of January 3. The local ceasefire will enable the necessary work to restore this power supply and help ensure the plant's uninterrupted operation. The ZNPP is Europe's largest nuclear power station, and its safety is a major international concern.

This agreement underscores the critical importance of maintaining stability at the nuclear facility, which holds strategic significance not only for Ukraine but for the wider region. Restoring reliable power is key to preventing potential accidents that could threaten public safety and the environment.

IAEA monitoring also highlights the necessity for continued international oversight of the situation in the conflict zone, particularly concerning nuclear safety. Rafael Grossi, Director General of the IAEA
