According to UATV: On March 12, 2023, Ukraine and Romania announced the launch of new electricity transmission line construction and joint projects in the oil and gas sectors. The initiatives were discussed during a joint press conference featuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Romanian President Nicolae Ciucă. This collaboration marks a significant step in Ukraine's strategy to diversify its energy supplies and integrate more closely with European networks.

A document concerning the construction of new interconnectors was signed during the conference, a move set to enhance energy infrastructure development between the two nations. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that these projects would be mutually beneficial for both countries, highlighting their importance given the current geopolitical challenges.

'This is definitely mutually beneficial for both our states,' stated Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Key Areas of Collaboration

A primary focus of the cooperation involves oil and gas extraction on the Black Sea shelf, which opens new avenues for Ukraine's energy independence. Furthermore, the potential transportation of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) through Romania was discussed, a development that could substantially impact regional energy security.

'We talked about the possibilities of transporting American LNG for Ukraine through Romania,' noted Zelenskyy, stressing that such logistics 'significantly supports us during the war.'

The plans also include establishing new border crossing points aimed at improving trade and economic links. As part of these efforts, a new 'Odesa Triangle' cooperation format was initiated to strengthen regional partnership. All these measures form part of a broader strategy to improve the energy and economic situation in both Ukraine and Romania.

These initiatives underscore Ukraine's drive to bolster its energy position amid the ongoing war and reduce dependence on Russian energy resources.
