Ukraine finished performances at the 2024 Olympics in tennis.
Ukrainian tennis players, sisters Nadiia and Liudmyla Kichenok, suffered a defeat in the quarterfinal match of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. They were eliminated in the 1/4 final. This was reported by the Tennis Federation of Ukraine.
The Kichenok sisters today, August 1, held the quarterfinal matchup of the doubles tennis competition of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In the quarterfinal match, the athletes lost to the representatives of Spain, Sara Sorribes-Tormo and Cristina Bucsa, in three sets.
Liudmyla and Nadiia Kichenok repeated their best Olympic achievement - reaching the quarterfinals.
In the fight for a place in the semifinals, they lost to the eighth-seeded Spanish players Cristina Bucsa and Sara Sorribes Tormo - 3:6; 6:2; 10:12.
Thus, Ukraine finished its tennis performances without medals.
The first set lasted only 42 minutes. During the game, the Spanish tandem took the lead twice with a break, but the Ukrainians quickly regained control of the match. However, at the score of 4:3, the Spaniards finally pressed the sisters: 6:3 in the first set.
The Kichenoks started the second set with a break and managed to maintain this advantage until the end of the second set, finishing it with a score of 6:2. The sisters also saved two break points, not giving away a single game on their serve.
The fate of the match was decided by a tie-break to ten points in the last third set.
The Ukrainians were leading 7:3, but lost six rallies in a row, reaching match points in favor of their opponents. The Ukrainians saved three match points, but the Spaniards pressed the Ukrainian duo: 12:10 as a result of the tie-break.
