Ukrainians face fines for failure to pay gas delivery: even if you do not use it.

Ukrainians have been informed about the possible consequences of ignoring gas delivery bills.
Even if you do not use gas in your house or apartment, you still need to pay for its delivery. Gas companies constantly service gas pipelines and carry out infrastructure repairs. Bills for gas delivery are issued monthly, regardless of the amount of gas consumed. If these bills are not paid, the company may resort to court to collect the debt.
Changes in gas delivery payment
Starting from 2025, there will be changes in the payment for gas delivery. The calculation will be based on consumption for the previous gas year. The calculation mechanism involves dividing the total amount of gas consumed over the year by 12 months, and this number is multiplied by the local delivery tariff. Therefore, amounts in different regions will vary.
For example, if 1000 cubic meters of gas are used in a year, the monthly payment for delivery will be calculated based on 83.33 cubic meters. In different cities, this amount can vary significantly - for example, in Kyiv it will be about 32 hryvnias, while in Lutsk it will be nearly 157 hryvnias. In general, monthly payments can range from several dozen to several hundred hryvnias.
Costs for not using gas
Even if you do not use gas but are connected to the gas supply, you still need to pay the monthly fee:
- 39 cubic meters per year - gas consumption for cooking;
- 126 cubic meters per year - fuel consumption for heating water/cooking;
- 314 cubic meters per year - gas consumption for heating.
There are cases when Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes and flee abroad as refugees received court decisions requiring them to pay the debt for gas delivery, which they actually did not use.
How to avoid gas delivery bills
To avoid gas delivery fees in the future, you need to officially disconnect from gas supply by submitting a corresponding application to the local gas company (oblgaz).
'You need to contact your gas distribution network operator, to whom you pay for gas delivery. They are responsible for accounting and charging for the fuel consumed. You need to submit an application for the termination of gas supply along with terminating the gas delivery agreement, or provide evidence of disconnection,' Naftogaz reported.
We remind you that a new electricity tariff will come into effect in Ukraine.
