Automatic Reclassification of Ukrainian Citizens

According to Novyny.live: When Ukrainian citizens reach the age of 25, their military status shifts automatically from "conscript" to "person liable for military service." This reclassification takes place within one month after the individual's 25th birthday. If the update does not occur as expected, citizens are advised to contact their local Territorial Recruitment Centers (TRCs).

The TRC is the authority responsible for maintaining military registration records. Under paragraph 79 of Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 1487, the status change must be entered into the official registry within 30 days of the conscript turning 25. Therefore, every citizen should verify that their status is updated automatically within this timeframe.

“You must be automatically registered as a person liable for military service within one month after turning 25.”

Vladyslav Deriy

This underscores the importance of timely data entry into the registry. According to Deriy, “District (city) territorial recruitment and social support centers are responsible for entering the information into the Unified State Register of Conscripts, Persons Liable for Military Service, and Reservists within thirty days after the conscript reaches the age of 25.”

If the status has not changed, citizens should visit their TRC to resolve the issue. This step is crucial for safeguarding one’s rights in the military registration system and fulfilling state obligations. Compulsory military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine applies to citizens aged 18 and older, so the shift to “liable for military service” marks a significant milestone in a person’s military career.

Why Meeting Deadlines Matters

In short, citizens must pay close attention to the deadlines for this status change and follow the proper procedures to avoid any misunderstandings.

For young Ukrainians, moving from conscript to service-liable status is a key moment—it signals their readiness to carry out military duties. Proper management of military records and timely status updates not only fulfill state requirements but also protect individual rights. Given today’s security challenges, active participation by young people in military service and a clear understanding of their responsibility to defend the nation are more important than ever.
