Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk reaches the quarterfinals of the Olympics.
Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk scored a hard-fought victory in the third round of the singles competition at the 2024 Olympic tennis. In three sets, the Ukrainian defeated the eighth seed in the world, Maria Sakkari.
It is worth noting that Ukraine's number one player made her debut at the 2024 Olympics, defeating New Zealander Lulu Sun in the opening round and then defeating Frenchwoman Clara Burel in the second round. Kostyuk's next opponent was the eighth seed in the world, Maria Sakkari, who lost only four games in her first two matches. The tennis players have met three times before, with only one match ending in a victory for the Ukrainian.
The match between Kostyuk and Sakkari lasted 2:49 hours, during which Kostyuk made 31 winners. The Ukrainian had an advantage over Sakkari in the number of unforced errors (47:55). Overall, the game ended with a score of 1:2 in favor of the Ukrainian.
Now the tennis player will face Croatian Donna Vekic in the quarterfinals, who knocked out the second seed in the world, American Coco Gauff, in the round of 16.
