Ukrainian grain has saved millions of people from hunger: Zelensky announced the figures.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the 'Grain from Ukraine' program has already saved 20 million people from hunger. He also emphasized that Ukrainian food exports support 400 million people in 100 countries around the world. These statements were made during the Third International Conference 'Grain from Ukraine' in Kyiv.
The President also called for support to protect food supply routes and other export goods from Ukraine.
«Since the launch of the food export corridor in our Black Sea - from July last year to this month - 321 infrastructure facilities in our ports have been damaged by Russian missiles and Iranian drones. More than 20 vessels - ordinary civilian ships - have also been damaged. And we are talking about vessels from other countries. This is not about Ukrainian vessels. More than 60 targeted strikes specifically on food infrastructure,» - commented Zelensky.
According to the president, food prices in African countries depend on the effectiveness of farmers and agricultural companies in Ukraine.
«How quickly we can clear our fields of Russian mines will determine how quickly the usual stability of the food market will be restored. And here I would like to thank, of course, our people, our farmers - there is very little Time for this gratitude during wartime. First and foremost, we think of our priority - our army, and that is fair. But I want to tell you: how many people have been maimed because of this war, how many due to the dense mining of our lands, a large number - we are talking about hundreds of thousands of hectares, - how many have been affected because of this, but farmers continued to work, continued to do all this, despite the fact that there was technically insufficient equipment in Ukraine for demining such volumes. I want to thank all the farmers, all the people in the fields who have fought against hunger all over the world. Thank you very much!», - added the president.
In addition, Austria will allocate 2 million euros to support the 'Grain from Ukraine' program.
In the temporarily occupied territories of the Kherson region, Russian invaders have begun to forcibly seize not only grain but also vegetables from farmers.
