Ukraine’s Growing Advantage with FPV Drones

According to UATV: Ukraine’s defense forces hold a clear edge over Russian occupation troops when it comes to deploying FPV drones—a factor that has inflicted heavy losses on the enemy. In May 2026, Ukrainian drones struck nearly 180,000 verified targets, underscoring the effectiveness of unmanned aerial technology in modern combat.

According to available data, Ukrainian forces enjoy a 1.5-to-1 ratio in FPV drone usage, and this advantage is steadily increasing. As Oleksandr Syrskyi noted:

“In the area of FPV drones, Ukraine’s defense forces outmatch the enemy by a ratio of 1.5 to 1, and over the past months this advantage has been growing in our favor.”

This trend has been a key driver behind significant Ukrainian military successes against the occupying forces.

Milestones Achieved by Ukrainian Drone Operators

Since the start of 2026, Ukrainian drone operators have eliminated 12,500 more Russian soldiers than Russia has managed to recruit into its armed forces during the same period. Syrskyi emphasized:

“Another telling result: since the beginning of 2026, Ukrainian drone operators have neutralized 12,500 more Russian occupiers than the Russian Federation has brought into its military over the same timeframe.”

Additionally, Ukrainian forces have destroyed roughly 4,000 Russian Shahed-type drones—a 27% increase compared to the previous month. They have also struck around 10,000 positions of enemy drone operators, highlighting the serious threat Ukrainian drones pose to the occupiers.

In light of these achievements, Ukraine has for the first time celebrated the Day of Unmanned Systems Forces, underscoring the importance of advancing this technology for the future of its military. According to the concept for the development of missile troops and artillery within the Armed Forces of Ukraine through 2030, continued improvements to unmanned systems will remain a top priority for the Ukrainian military command.

These figures point to the strategic role of drone technology in modern warfare, capable of significantly shifting the balance of power on the battlefield. The active use of drones not only gives Ukraine a tactical advantage but also helps reduce casualties among its own troops. Given the development plans extending to 2030, further investments and innovations in this field are expected, which could in turn influence the overall trajectory of the conflict.
