Krivyi Rih: What Ores Are Extracted in the Heart of the Ukrainian Mining Industry.
The city of Krivyi Rih, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, is the true heart of the Ukrainian mining industry. Here beats the pulse of the economy, life, and history, all thanks to the extraction of mineral resources, particularly various types of ores. It is the city where the largest ore deposit in Ukraine is located, supplying our industry with raw materials.
The latest news concerns the deposits in Krivyi Rih, where various types of ores are extracted.
According to the resource 'Nature of Kryvorizhzhia', Krivyi Rih is one of the richest regions in Ukraine in terms of the number of mineral resources. Here lies the largest iron ore basin in the country, containing large reserves of iron ores necessary for metallurgy. These iron deposits are located along the rivers Inhulets, Saksahan, Zhovta, and Zelena.
Types of Iron Ore in Kryvorizhzhia
Three main types of iron ore are extracted in Krivyi Rih:
- rich ores for metallurgy;
- magnetite quartzites for further enrichment;
- oxidized iron quartzites that require additional processing.
Details About Specific Types of Ore
Rich ores in Krivyi Rih have reserves of over a billion tons, mostly extracted by underground methods and containing more than 46% pure iron. Magnetite quartzites contain about 10% iron and have a volume of 16 million tons. Oxidized iron quartzites contain from 30 to 46% iron and are extracted by open-pit mining.
Significant efforts and funds are being invested in the explored and developed Kryvyi Rih basin for the extraction of various types of iron ore. The total explored reserves of iron ores in Krivyi Rih exceed 32 billion tons and include not only rich ores, magnetite and oxidized quartzites but also coal, marble, and dolomites.
So far, significant iron ore sections have been discovered, and even a unique quarry has been opened in Krivyi Rih.
Under Krivyi Rih lies one of the largest ore deposits in Ukraine, which significantly impacts the country's industry by supplying it with raw materials. The region continues to be an active center for the extraction and exploration of various types of iron ores, and the reserves of mineral resources in this area impress with their volume and diversity.Read also
