Umerov explained why the Commander of the Air Forces was really dismissed.
Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stated that the dismissal of Mykola Oleschuk from the position of Commander of the Air Forces is not related to the crash of the F-16 fighter jet. He noted that these are separate issues and are not currently connected. Umerov expressed condolences to the family of the deceased pilot and explained that Ukraine, together with its partners, is analyzing and investigating the causes of the crash.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the replacement of Mykola Oleschuk as Commander of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the command level and taking good care of the warriors and personnel. According to the order, the duties of Commander of the Air Forces of Ukraine will be temporarily performed by Lieutenant General Anatoliy Krivonozhko.
The loss of the F-16 fighter jet and the death of the pilot were also confirmed by the General Staff of the AFU. The aircraft was shot down during the repulsion of a missile strike by the Russian Federation. Ukrainian pilot Oleksii Mes died, having destroyed several missiles and an attack drone.
