New excise tax on sugary drinks
Furthermore, the government also plans to introduce a new excise tax on sugary drinks, which could provide an additional 5 billion hryvnias in the budget. These steps are aimed at controlling the shadow economy and covering the budget deficit in the next financial year.
Experts' comments
The head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on finance, tax, and customs policy noted that the government does not plan a significant increase in VAT. Instead, the focus will be on combating the shadow economy by implementing specific tax changes.
The proposed changes in tax policy indicate the government’s desire to increase fiscal revenues and reduce shadow turnover in the market. The introduction of taxes on popular platforms and the excise tax on sugary drinks could become an important step towards ensuring the financial stability of the country.
