The government is considering tax benefits for wind energy: what will it give to investors.
Tax benefits for the wind energy sector
According to inkorr.com: Olga Savchenko, head of the legal committee of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, advocates for the extension of tax benefits for the import of equipment for renewable energy. She believes that the list of equipment should also include that which is used in wind energy.
“We see from October 10 that yes, it is necessary. Because the tax burden, the customs burden on the investor at the moment of crossing the border, must be taken on by the state in order to reduce his initial investments so that he understands that this is interesting.”
She emphasized that the state should partially cover the tax expenses when importing energy equipment to stimulate investors in developing new generating capacities.
“There is an idea that you cross the border, pay VAT, get a tax credit, and then within the framework of your activities return the paid funds. But the question is whether to pay 20% upfront or to return them over time – that is the question.”
Savchenko noted that the exclusion of wind energy from tax benefits when importing equipment creates unequal conditions, as wind is a stable source of energy, and its development is planned in the national energy and climate plan.
“Now there are already wind stations in the draft laws. We hope that everything will be finalized so that they actually appear in the end.”
Maxim Nemchinov, vice-president of Energy Club, also supported tax benefits for the import of equipment for wind power plants, considering it a necessary step for the development of the sector.
Representatives of the Ukrainian wind energy sector are calling for the continuation of tax benefits for the import of equipment for renewable energy, including wind energy. This will positively impact the development of the sector and ensure stable conditions for investors.
The continuation of tax benefits for wind energy could become an important step in attracting investments in this sector, which, in turn, will contribute to the expansion of the renewable energy potential in Ukraine. In the context of global climate change and the need to reduce emissions, the development of wind energy is gaining particular importance.
