Japan's concerns over Russia-North Korea cooperation
Japan expressed concern about the strengthening military cooperation between Russia and North Korea. The deployment of North Korean army troops on Russian territory could have negative consequences for regional security in the area near Japan.
At a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at NATO headquarters, Deputy Head of Mission of Japan to NATO Kohai Nakamura reported that he received credible information about the dispatch of North Korean soldiers to eastern Russia and their participation in military training. Kohai Nakamura expressed great concern regarding this fact.
"Truthful information was received that North Korea indeed sent soldiers to eastern Russia and is participating in military training there. The Japanese government closely monitors the dispatch of soldiers by North Korea to Russia with great concern," Kohai Nakamura stated.
According to the Japanese representative, the Russian invasion of Ukraine is an outrageous violation of international order.
"The recent development of military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, including this issue, not only threatens the further escalation of the situation in Ukraine but also poses serious threats to regional security in the area near Japan. Japan will continue to collect and analyze relevant information, as well as closely cooperate with the international community with the aim of full compliance with Security Council Resolutions and achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine," Kohai Nakamura added.
