Ukraine Warns Russia’s Ceasefire Offer in Kostiantynivka Is a Trap, Says Ex-Intel Chief.
General Malomuzh’s Take on Russia’s Proposal
According to UATV: Ukraine’s army general Mykola Malomuzh has warned that Russia’s offer to temporarily halt shelling in Kostiantynivka for a humanitarian event is likely a provocation. Speaking on July 5 amid ongoing combat and military operations in and around the city, Malomuzh urged caution. He previously served as head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service from 2005 to 2010.
Malomuzh stressed that Ukraine must not fall for offers that could be designed to deceive or destabilize.
“Above all, we must not give in to any kind of provocative or operational proposals,” the general stated. He added that clear security protocols and guarantees already exist for exchanging the bodies of fallen soldiers, underscoring the need to follow established procedures rather than trust Russian initiatives.
The Situation on the Ground in Kostiantynivka
Describing Russia’s ceasefire suggestion as an information operation, Malomuzh said it could lay the groundwork for a larger special operation.
“This is an information operation,” he declared, urging vigilance in dealing with the enemy.“You cannot trust the enemy,” the general emphasized, pointing to the risks of believing Russian overtures. He also called for developing alternative responses to such proposals.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s defense forces continue to hold the city of Kostiantynivka, despite Russian claims to the contrary. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed that Vladimir Putin’s statements about occupying the city are false. Kostiantynivka remains a focal point of active hostilities, illustrating how ceasefire offers in the Ukraine-Russia conflict often carry political or informational motives. This context highlights the need for strict security measures and cautious handling of Russian initiatives, as well as clear communication from Ukrainian military and state bodies—factors that will shape the region’s future developments.
